Dr. Michael Bonner, DDS
San Antonio, Texas
What is your educational background?
My dad was in the Air Force, so I was in eighteen schools before graduating from high school in Mineral Wells, Texas, in 1965. College was at East Texas State University majoring in chemistry and zoology with a B.S. in 1969. As a postgraduate I was just short of getting an MS in geography, and I graduated from Dental School San Antonio in 1975.
How long have you practiced dentistry, and why did you enter the profession?
I've been in practice since 1975 and entered dentistry to avoid the medical profession. I was pre-med, and I had taught the only physician in my college town of Commerce, Texas, to fly. When Dr. Harris and I would fly over the hospital, a white sheet on the roof meant get to the hospital now! So I shadowed Dr. Henry Harris and was exposed to everything that can happen in an ER ... which is why I studied dentistry. Dentistry is actually my default profession!
What is your current practice, and what is its focus?
I have a general dentistry practice in Lake Worth, TX, and serve as the health and wellness coordinator, and I'm a co-author of The Oral Health Bible.
What do you enjoy most about being a dentist?
What I like most about being a dentist is the opportunity to assist many patients in their efforts to achieve better overall health. Obviously, I am a major recommender of Oxyfresh oral health products, nutritional supplements, digestive enzymes and even Joint Remedy.
When were you introduced to Oxyfresh?
I was introduced to Oxyfresh in June of 1991 and was given a 1/3 ounce tube of toothpaste to try out. It worked exceedingly well, and as they say, the rest is history!
What is your favorite Oxyfresh product and why?
My favorite product is Oxyfresh Gel because it is so incredibly versatile and effective. I have patients use Oxyfresh Gel before treatment, I use it during treatment, and its use after treatment makes a world of difference in how comfortably and quickly patients heal. The gel has so many uses it would take a little booklet to cover them all, but suffice to say a tube or two of Oxyfresh Gel needs to be in every home.
What are your hobbies and passions in life?
My two primary hobbies are motorcycling and flying, and I do a lot of both every year. My last eight motorcycles have all been BMWs, and since 1998 I've put over 350,000 miles on them. I have been a flight instructor since 1967, and I've flown 145 types of aircraft and hold an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, a Lear jet type rating. I'm also a flight instructor with airplane single and multiengine land and instrument ratings. I have also been the chief pilot of a flight school, spent many an hour in a North American B25 bomber when I was in the Confederate (now Commemorative) Air Force, and still actively instruct. My total flight time right now is about 5,700 accident-free hours, and I fly my own Beechcraft Debonair (C-33). My registration number for the aircraft is N2OXY. Motorcycling and flying inevitably result in travel, so travel and experiencing new places people and things is a passion of mine.
Who is the most influential person in your life that played a major role in your success?
The most influential person in my life started out as Mary Frances Blalock from Missouri, but when she became Mary Frances Bonner from Texas it wasn't too long before I came along in 1947. Mother instilled a lot of traits in me that define who I am, and I am grateful virtually every day that I was lucky enough to have this woman as my mother. The most influential professor I ever had was Stephen L. Razniak, Ph.D, a professor of the chemistry honors program at East Texas State University. He never knew if, but we called him Krafty Krazniak because he could probably teach just about any course. In nine years of college, graduate and dental school, this fellow stood head and shoulders above everyone else. I took the opportunity to go to East Texas State and tell him what he meant to me just a few years before he died. Dr Razniak was simply an extraordinary fellow and mentor.
